Korean BBQ

Hi everyone, so as some of you might've known, my grandparents from Newfoundland came to visit us and we did a ton of fun trips with them and experienced new things we have never done before ! One of them was Korean BBQ and I've been wanting to try it for a couple years now but there was never a restaurant in Nova Scotia where I lived that had this ! After much nagging, my family and boyfriend gave in and went with me to Miga ! :D
I've only ever had Korean food once before, and it was like a small mouthful so I didn't know what to expect. I went in there with an open mind and tried some stuff I usually wouldn't and I really liked most of it ! I forgot to take an outfit picture that day, but I hope you enjoy all of the food pictures !

Side starter that everyone got with their meal ! All three were cold dishes. From left to right is sweet potato in a sweet Korean sauce, some kind of pickled lettuce, and yellow bean sprouts that were also pickled. I only liked the sweet potato, haha.

Next they brought out five sharing dishes for everyone that I guess they serve to large parties of people. I didn't try any of this, as none of it really appealed to me, but from left to right are: Korean fish cake, chopped radish, pickled seaweed, spicy kimchi, and some kind of corn slaw. All of these dishes were cold as well.

Dad and I ordered the two person Korean BBQ and with our meal came either the House Salad or a Ginger Salad. I never eat salad, as I just usually don't like it, but Dad ordered the House Salad and it looked interesting so I tried some of it and was really good ! The lettuce was really crunchy, and the dressing they used had kind of a salty taste, but in a good way. We ended up sharing this with everyone so I really only got to have a small taste of it.

We didn't know that we were going to get all of those free side dishes with our meal so we ended up ordering two tempura's and a side of ten beef gyoza ! My meal also came with a small bowl of sticky rice and a miso soup. I ended up drinking all of the miso soup before I could take a picture of it, haha. But on my plate is some pumpkin tempura, so good ! The beef gyoza were really tasty too !

Here you can see some of the appetizers we ordered: the tempura and the g
yoza. The tempura came with three shrimp and a couple of weird vegetables I wasn't used to getting when ordering tempura (like cauliflower, pumpkin ..) but I liked it ! It didn't taste really deep fried like some of the places I've gone to and ordered from. C: You can also see dad cooking the meat on the grill ! I don't remember what meats are in the two dishes by the grill, I think it was the other beef and the spicy pork.

Close up of the beef cooking ! That was the boneless Korean BBQ short rib
s, and I liked them the best out of the four meats we grilled !

Dad cooking the spicy pork and the strips of house Korean beef ! So much meat haha ! We ended up sharing some of it, but I was surprised I ate as much meat as I did ! I'm usually not a big eater.

So that's it ! Surprisingly enough, we ate almost all the food ! I think the only things we had left were some of the seaweed and radish ! Everyone ate their plates clean. I ended up ordering a scoop of Green Tea Ice Cream for dessert and it was delicious ! Green tea ice cream is my favorite ! I ended up eating it all before I realized I forgot to take a picture but oh well !
Miga's is a really great restaurant and I recommend it to everyone that likes Korean BBQ. It's on Erin Mills, which could be described as the borderline between Oakville and Mississauga, and is always really busy but despite that, they are very fast when it comes to cooking your food ! The waitress we had was very friendly, and always made sure our glasses were full with whatever we were drinking. Other people who worked there would come over and ask if everything was to our liking, too ! It was definitely great ! Next time we go with a large group, I want to see if we can get into one of their traditional Korean rooms they have for special occasions ! :D
